Human rights and conflict resolution training
Beledweyn, Hiran Region, Somalia.
Human Rights and Conflict resolution are two main factors of social life. Understanding the meaning of Human Rights and Conflict resolution are important for society. They facilitate the integration of the people. They reduce the problems and conflict among people. The international community always tries to help our society to reach peace and prospective stability between them. CRDSOMALIA is a respected and tested local NGO which conducts different training, workshops and forums to help Somali people solve their problem. One of them was held in Beledweyn district of Hiran Region. The objective of this training was to enhance the understanding of the participants the meaning and aim of the Human Rights and Conflict Resolution.
The Trainers were drawn from different local organizations work different fields in the Hiran Region. They consist of 30 participants. This training was focused the following topics:
Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)
The Convention on the Rights of the child (CRC)
The marginalized Groups Protection
General knowledge of the conflicts; types of the conflicts
The underlying causes
The different stages of the conflicts and the various phases to the settlement of the conflicts
The phases of peace building, making, keeping and building.
The objectives were the following:
To assist the local communities for solving their internal conflicts through traditional ways with mechanism of modern knowledge for conflict resolutions.
To increase and enhance local people's perception the basic human rights declarations.
To develop and strengthen for keeping Human Rights among the participants special and the local people in general.
Activity:
During the three days, the below mentioned activities have been covered;
Universal Declaration of Human Rights;
The participants were introduced the reasons and basic principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. They were declared but these principles are universal regardless the exceptional culture, beliefs and differences among the countries.
Convention on the Rights of the Child
The participants were taught the basic rights of the child. The protection of the children is imperative to any authority and governments.
Convention on status of refugees Rights
The Participants were taught the intervention of the training included update and reminders of the rights of the refugees. These are necessary to take care the rights of the refugees whether internally displaced persons and those migrated to foreign countries.
Conflict and conflict resolution
The attendees of the training were introduced various techniques and tools used to conflict resolution. The tools were included conflict mapping, conflict tree and others. They also taught the phases of the conflict stages which including the pre-conflict, confrontation period, crisis period and post conflict periods.
Phases of peace building
The participants gained some understanding of peace building initiatives and the different phases that should be undertaken when peace to be built; such as peace making, peace keeping and peace building. They understood the definition of peace and difference within the terms of peace making, peacekeeping and peace building.
Findings/lessons learned
The participants showed high interesting in their capacity building and awareness towards peace building, conflict resolution and human rights through trainings and workshops.
The other major factor is that such small-scale trainings might play significant role for improving the community awareness, integration and restore the fragmented relations in the society.
The other important benefit of such trainings are that such interventions might accommodate community's sharing experience and insights to discuss their positive coexistence and end their differences through dialogue and recondition the local community.
Convening workshops/trainings for different sectors of the community have the potential advantage to discard the internal grievances and hostilities and generate positive environment and common understanding.
Recommendations
In conclusion, the participants thanked CRDSomalia for organizing the trainings and they recommended for extending of such kind of trainings/workshops and they believe that the community could have chance to exchange their insights and experiences aids with further discuss of improvement the positive coexistence.
