Conflict Resolution and Peace Building Held in Jowhar

The Center for Research and Dialogue (CRD) had conducted three days workshop on Conflict Resolution and Peace Building in Jowhar district of Middle Shabelle Region during 22 – 24 January, 08. The main purpose of this workshop was to improve & strengthen communities' role in peace building and conflict resolution. The number of the participants was 30 members from Elders, Youth and Women from the 8 districts of the Region.

The workshop was seen very important and relevant by both the regional administrations and participants. They all stated that it was unexpected to see such a large number of mixed parts of community brought together to exchange experiences and discuss issues related to peace building and conflict resolution.

Workshop participants succeeded to understand what is conflict and how it can be resolved and how they can sustain the peace and protect any misunderstandings that can emerge any time and anywhere in the region..

The workshop was opened by the Commissioner of Jowhar district Mr, Aqiil, who described well the need of such workshops in strengthening communities' role in peace building & conflict resolution. During his opening speech he sincerely thanked to CRD and requested for more follow up activities to be done repeatedly in the region and its surrounding districts. Mr. Aqil has underscored that different part of the community is very important for peace building and conflict resolution. He also encouraged the participants to work hard and to utilize well the skills and experiences gained from the workshop and to change it into practical actions.
