Follow-up Workshop on Women's Peace and Reconciliation Efforts and Entebbe Peace Initiatives
Form 10-12/06/2008, CRDSOMALIA/INTERPEACE AND IIDA/COSPE held a workshop named “Follow-up Workshop on Women's Peace and Reconciliation Efforts and Entebbe Peace Initiatives” at SAHAFI II in Mogadishu for 50 women participants from different eleven regions of South Central Somalia.
Since collapse of Siad Barre Regime, Somali women began to build NGOs. They have increased their involvement in peace activities for Somalia , which is actual response showing that building peace is one of their first priorities and major demand to their communities as well as their families' life and development.
CRDSOMALIA/INTERPEACE and IIDA/COSPE facilitated this workshop for women from eleven regions discussed about Follow-up Workshop on Women's Peace and Reconciliation Efforts and Entebbe Peace Initiatives. They imaged their idea as good as possible.
The opening day CRD and IIDA talked brief history about their activities. CRD held workshops, forums, reconciliations, peace negotiations methodology among social groups and trainings. It strived at about 30% of women to participate at every peace processes, both socially & politically and held workshops & forums in accordance of the subject. On the other hand IIDA made workshops & forums for women, health & agricultural assisting undertakings
The participants talked their past activities and how to contribute their peace activities. Some of the women open a road which was blocked by the militia. They organized the society spatially young men which facilitate how to meet a militia. After discussion the militia allowed to leave the road. Other women encouraged their society to build an administration for their region and they succeed their effort. Bay women group began activities for uniting and reconciling their differences the Malags of Digil & Mirilfle clan and it followed smoothly.
The participants decided the followings:
- To collaborate and unify all women peace building efforts of both inside and outside including Entebbe outcomes.
- Banadir participants formed peace building committee consisting 18 voluntary members who swore to jointly workshop together in search of peace in addition they develop activities to implement and to meet frequently at least once a week.
- Participants from other 10 regions nominated 2 focal persons for each region CRD women peace building and one from IIDA WIPB.
- Participants from the regions agreed common activities some to jointly implement by adjacent regions and some others to specifically fulfill by each region, but as a whole, to contact and follow each other. The need to further work on developing modalities of collaboration and information sharing among women groups was highly recommended
- The participants underscored the necessity for following up plans to realize the workshop outcomes.
