| Why our kids are not reading? |
|
Thanks for helping these kids. How about their parents? Do they read The Age? One is left to wonder why it is that these mostly African students didn't have any books in the first place and now that they do is their reading something that is being encouraged at home as well as at school. The reading habit is something that develops over time. A love of books will not only give children an advantage at school but it will open the gates to a whole world of exploration and understanding. Lets hope that this great story will lead to a whole culture shift, not only for the children but also for the parents who might also be encouraged to explore these books and discuss the ideas they bring with their children. Interested in the status of reading among the Somali community's kids....please read this story from the Melbourne Age.
